Internet of Things; IoT, a well-known term for Rompa. In 2020, many IoT solutions and services have launched. In the upcoming years there will be an upward trend in IoT applications, there is even a prediction of 41 billion IoT devices in 2027. In the future, the Internet of Things is indispensable.
On the 26th of November 2020, the IoT Academy of KPN organized the IoT Update of the Year: Unlock your Things & release your data. Rompa Group participated on the IoT Update, a remarkable subject was the use of Internet of Things in the service and maintenance of companies. Let us explain it a little more for you, read on quickly!
With an emerging trend in IoT, machines need to keep up with the pace. Predictive monitoring is growing in the (technical) industry. By means of ‘predictive monitoring’; machines themselves indicate how they are currently doing, a predictive maintenance of the production process is developed. Maintenance of machines often means shutting down machines, which in turn costs time and money.
The use of IoT in production can be a huge gain in efficiency, connectivity, safety and communication. By using Internet of Things, the machines are able to find out for every possible part of the production process in which condition the product was in. Wherever you use IoT, it gives more certainty for the future, saves costs in the long run and gives you the opportunity to build up a competitive edge.
An application called ‘condition-based monitoring’; placing sensors on machines managed via the Cloud. Think, for example, of infrared thermography; the friction of the machine creates heat. By measuring this heat periodically, it is possible to gain insight into which parts go beyond certain limits. Trough the insights from the IoT data that the sensors display on these machines, productivity can be increased, resulting in cost savings, and cost savings in turn ensure customer satisfaction. What exactly are the advantages of condition-based monitoring? We have listed them for you:
- Maintenance will always take place on time by this way
- Reduction of the number of maintenance operations
- The downtime of the machine is much lower
- Increasing the reliability and availability of assets
- Production costs remain as low as possible
